Tasty treats at Rochelle Adonis

Australia has to thank the Brits for a lot of things and for me highest among them is High Tea.

That's why a surprise trip to Rochelle Adonis in Northbridge for my English second-time-mum-to-be friend was the perfect way to give her a baby shower, without the fuss.

Savoury first course

Rochelle Adonis is not your typical high tea with scones, clotted cream and jam, but offers tasty morsels and warming teas for a fine dining experience to the humble afternoon tea.

If you don't like shared dining then make a large booking, because you'll be seated around a big table with others in a very feminine chic room.

Thankfully, being a group of three, we basked in Perth's glorious winter sun at our window seat as our BYO ($10 corkage) champagne was poured and we perused the tea menu.

Tea menu, champagne and fine china
My English ladies order the Earl Grey and Parisian Rose, while I chose the Turkish Apple and Cinnamon. All teas were deliciously fragarant and served in the type of fine china found in your nanna's cupboard.

Then came out our first plate of treats. I'm not very good at remembering the amazing descriptions, which is a good thing since Rochelle Adonis' seasonal menu changes all the time.

What I can say is my simple way of listing the savoury treats would never do it justice. I can't work out which of the creamy cauliflower soup with spiced foam, dwarf poached pear with Gorgonzola, smoked salmon or mini beef pie with horseradish cream and beetroot was my favourite. They had us all smacking our lips.

After a watermelon sorbet palate cleanser we ordered more tea and waited for out sweet closer.

And given our collective 'ahhs' as this little number was delivered we were not disappointed.

A sweet closer
Brownie sundae with edible flowers, popcorn truffle with custard, posh lamination and pear tart with spiced cream. Yummy mummy and I finished ours and our full friend's sweets. I'll always make room for things that taste this good.

We were the last to leave as we emptied our champagne glasses and tea cups, chattering away about the last escapades.

At only $50 per person this has become my favourite high tea experience in Perth. And it was an easy win in giving my special English friends a taste of home.
