Photo Friday - week 1

I love photography and I'd like to think I'm okay. Slightly above point and shoot, well below amateur and miles behind professional.

I can compose a photo, keep it in focus and use the manual function in my big fancy SLR. Sometimes I even get an amazing shot. SOME being the key in there.

In my early mum days, when baby and boob were attached for hours on end at times I'd only ever seen after too many Jaeger Bombs, I discovered Project 365. It's a simple challenge - take one photo a day for a year to document your life and hone your photography skills. With time on my hands it seemed like an easy challenge for my 101 in 1001.

Then I started thinking about it. Frankly, my world revolves around the nursery, couch and kitchen sink. In any order really. I stare at a baby, a boob, nipples, nipples on bottles, nipples on dummies, nappies, Frankie and when I've had enough I dare to turn the TV on after 4pm. Happy hour in my house isn't when I can crack open the wine, it's when Foxtel can entertain myself and Mini Me.

To help keep me inspired I then stumbled on various photo challenges. And for once there was an Australian one I could get excited about.

Fat Mum Slim is a mummy, photography and social media blog that stemmed from the same place this online journal came from - to slow the march of the post-baby brain mush. Every month Chantelle releases a challenge for her followers to take part in on Facebook, Instagram... you name it this chick has social media platforms nailed.

I really feel for Chantelle and her ace admin team. Every day, four images are selected to be the 'Fab Four'. Gosh the moaning that goes on when someone has been 'playing along for ages and you never pic me'... yes the spelling mistake was intentional. One day I shall go on a rampaging rant about the decline of the English language. But I digress. These 'Fab Four' really are fab. They make me want to be smarter, more creative and daring with my photography. I'm a long way off, but it is a hope.

Gosh, that's enough 10pm babble from me.

In closing, every Friday I will do a week wrap-up of my photos here to prove I've finished number 59 in my 101 in 1001. Let's see if I can get better at this photography malarkey.

1: Hi! My Name Is... This is me. Please return if found wandering around looking for something to photograph.
2: My city: Perth may not have a lot going for it, other than the most isolated city in the world, but it's home for me and this funky water bird.
3: Happy cupcakes: These lemon cupcakes for Grace's birthday were a baking nightmare. But for everything that went wrong, they came out lemony, yellow and happy.
4: Picnic + Breakfast = winning: Once again I'm at the river and this time I've combined my two favourite things - picnics and breakfast. Again, how awesome is this city!
5: My 4am perspective: Most new mums would relate to this early morning view. No more sunrises for me. Just baby and boob.

6: Booty call: Mini Me will be one stylish lass in this gold booties, thanks to her Auntie Liv.
7: It's a sign: We know we're home when we see this sign. And it wasn't stolen, I bought it at a charity auction.
8: Peek-a-boo: I'd love to see the world through these little eyes.
