Benefit of being a mum #2

It's forced exercise.

Yes there is lots of couch time, particular during feeds, but you can still be burning the calories.

Here are my mum-ercises:

Breastfeeding (low cardio): apparently it can burn 500 calories a day. Bub is literally sucking the calories out of you.

Holding the baby (weights): give Mini Me, who is a lightweight baby compare to 75% of them out there, to a friend for 10 minutes and their arms are aching. No tuck shop arms for me. Must get better at switching between them.

Settling a baby (weights & cardio): holding, walking, standing and swaying, bouncing on the gym ball... Anything to get her to stop crying beats a Zumba class any day.

Baby fighting sleep/stair settling (cardio): we live in a townhouse and on a fussy day, I could go up and down those stairs 10 times a sleep. Potential buns of steel have to be a worthy trade off for an unsettled baby.

Pram pushing (cardio & core): my first walk around the block when I got home was a serious work out. My abs were aching.

The silver lining of being a mum.

  1. GOLD! How true is the weights one. I always giggle when people say their arms get tired. It's funny how you don't even notice because you build up to it.
