2014 must be the International Year of Niceness and Happiness. Everywhere I'm seeing challenges to pay it forward, capture happy moments, create memory jars, all in an effort to feel warm and fuzzy.
Already for my 101 in 1001 I wanted to make a list of the 100 things that make me happy. I've been slowly building that list as I go along. Then on Facebook I noticed a friend post a challenge #100happydays.
Could I be happy for 100 days in a row?
Sure I'm happy a lot. But every day for three and half months? Apparently Abraham Lincoln said 'Folks are usually about as happy as they make their minds up to be.' If it is a state of mind, why shouldn't I tell myself to be happy.
According to the #100happydays people, many people claim they don't have the time to be happy.
Maybe they don't have the time to take a photo to record that happy moment because they are living it. But that's a technicality. |
Now I love a good throw down challenge. I'm always up for a dare. So ambiguous hash tag, you're on. I can be happy.
Once I started and thought about it, I noticed it. Everyday there was something to make me smile. Even if it was fleeting. Mini Me and Fur Child certainly make is easy.
Apparently this is not a competition. It is not to make others jealous. But please do share your happy moments on Facebook or Instagram for the world to bask in your happiness. Hmmm. As altruistic as you'd like to be, we are human. And there is always a small bit of 'wow look at how wonderful my life is' in all of us.
That's why I've been emailing my photos through. Plus I want the free photo book at the end. I do love a challenge and I especially love prizes. No wonder I was a teacher's pet in school.
But I can't help but share, while trying not to gloat. Don't you hate those happy people with their glowing skin and their mantras and their advice and their smugness and their glowing skin and shining eyes. And their advice. Ha. Well I'm hoping to be that person for the six people that read this post.
I do feel better, am happier, more optimistic. It is fun, I'm recording my days as they fly by and I do notice those happy moments. As Judy Garland sings 'Get Happy'. (Please note I am not a gay man, I just like the song).
Here is me getting happy for the past 19 days.
2: Enjoying presents from my sisters - Ear rings from South America from Sister S and a homemade cork board from Sister K.
3: Watching the scavenger hover while Mini Me plays with her food.
4: Playing around with Mini Me on the floor. It's a nice perspective of the world.
5: Surprise flowers from hubby, reset in a variety of containers. Nothing beats fresh flowers throughout the house.
6: Mini Me has a taste for jewellery - literally.
7: This cheeky monkey has discovered how to open drawers.
8: Grandpa and Mini Me's day at the pool. He's been down and this was the most I've seen him smile is ages.
9: Teaching our mate how to make lasagna from scratch before he heads back to the UK.
10: She really is a Mini Me.
11: We made the local paper! Mini Me's first print media appearance.
12: Couch date night with Hubby and empanadas while Mini Me sleeps. Ah, the simple things.
13: Splashing around outside during these hot, hot, hot days.
14: Australia Day by the pool. What could possibly be better than that?
15: This guy. No matter how horrid I am, how difficult or demanding, he stays by my side and calms me down.
16: Bath time... It's time for Daddy and Bub and time for me to clean up or chill out.
17: Seeing my Sister S perform at the Fringe Festival in her community choir.
18: Every afternoon Fur Child and Mini Me sit by the door waiting for Hubby to come home. After Mini Me's grumpy day I'm pleased to see him too.
19: Another day, another mention in the paper. And I won free tickets from it too!
