A pleasant meal at Peasant's Table

It's been a while since Bruce the Pram has found a place that satisfies his wide stature. Pram friendly restaurants can be hard to find!

But just down the road are two roomy and delicious finds. One of them is the new Peasant's Table in Mt Hawthorn.

Hubby and I have been eagerly 'watching this space' as The Mez transformed itself into a family friendly local shopping complex, big enough for everything you need, but small enough it doesn't need the ocean of parking surrounding most shopping centres.

Understanding its customer, the Hawaiian Group are capitalising on the young family demographic around The Mez and built a new playground, pedestrian friendly space, complete with a restaurant that completes the picture.

Peasant's Table has been softly opened since mid-August but officially opened on the 31 August. True to its name the food on offer is rustic fare, but far from simple. It's like fine dining at a country farm kitchen.

I'm quick to rant about Perth's casual dining restaurants pretending to be fine dining. Hence why we pay over inflated prices for what is in essence pub food. Thankfully Peasant's Table pulls it off, and without the hefty price tag.

Between four of us our lunch, with wine and coffees, came to $45 each. That's the state of affairs in Perth. The boys opted for the pie of the day, a beef Stilton that was cheesy goodness at a generous serving, with a side of chips. My veggie friend had the pumpkin risotto, that was deceptively large and cheesy, with a side of seasonal greens. Sadly the greens were forgotten, but quickly found when we told the waitress. I couldn't go past the duck which comes with beans and chorizo, which was heartier and tastier than your normal baked beans.

Mini Me taking it in

We sat inside under the simple rope installation, with plenty of room for Mini Me and her buddy Bruce the Pram. There was at least one other pram in the restaurant and many more in the outdoor seating area.

Peasant's Table is a little baffling in that its dinnerware and start of service feels like fine dining, but quickly the service becomes causal family dining. I think it is still trying to work out what exactly it is, but while its looking for itself, it hasn't lost focus on the important things - good tasting food.
