Mum was 21 when she had me. My grandmother 20 when she had my mum. My great grandmother was the same and only passed away a few years ago. I definitely bucked the trend with Mini Me and I don't feel old at all.
Four generations of women in my family. |
As a kid I thought mum was as old as the bible and my grandmother came from the year of the dinosaur. And my great grandmother, I think she had baths with God before the big bang.
It's only as I grew up that I realised she's not old and there are so many benefits to the short age gap. She's fun, has tons of energy, understands my generation's dilemmas and will be around (hopefully) for a long time for Mini Me. Like many mum's out there, she's pretty good.
It's also exciting to have four generations alive at one time. That's so rare these days and I'm glad Mini Me has the chance to meet her great grandmother. In saying that, getting four generations of Italian women together can mean a lot of arguing of 'I know best/more/better/my way'.
In thanks for being a pivotal part of our family we threw her a Mexican fiesta to celebrate her 50th birthday.
It was bright colourful like her. Like a good Italian event we had far too much food. But laughs, tequila soaked melons, piƱatas, lemoncello and more drinks were abound.
Ola! |
Now where's the tequila....
