Frocktober is a fundraiser thought up over drinks by some Victorian girls in 2007 to wear dresses to raise money for ovarian cancer research.
Some of my past frocking exploits. |
Here was naïve me thinking it would be easy to detect, like cervical cancer and the god awful pap test. But there is no test and too often women only find out they have ovarian cancer when they are trying to have kids. This is exactly what happened to a girl I worked with last year.
Or like my sister's mother-in-law, who found out when it was too late and the treatment could not help her win the fight against ovarian cancer.
When I think about these women, I realise how lucky I am. I had Mini Me with no complications and relatively easily too. I'm lucky I could have my little girl and I want her in a world where she doesn't have to worry about it happening to her, or at least she can have regular tests to detect it early.
That's why 'Two chicks and baby' will be raising money for Frocktober.
Yes I am pimping out Mini Me, but how else was I going to get donations for the third year in a row?
At only four months old, Mini Me is joining her auntie and will wear 31 different outfits in October. That should be easy, giving she spews on them every day and has at least two costume changes a day.
Given it is my third Frocktober, I'm going to try a new challenge - to create 31 different looks with just five dresses.
The five dresses in question |
You read that right. With a couple of engagement parties, my wedding anniversary and just being a new mum that gets vomited on daily it is going to be a little tricky. But I'm sure I can try, otherwise there will be lots of layering and jacket swaps.
These are the five dresses that made the cut:
- Bright yellow breezy midi dress
- Cream/white lace racer back
- Multi-coloured tie strap dress (I have had this dress for at least six years)
- Embracing the black & white contrast with this shift dress
- Versatile black t-shirt dress (US$12 - hell yeah)

Or just donate in general to Frocktober. Every little bit counts.
