It's a mystery

A cryptic email tells you where to meet and what to wear, but what you're doing is a surprise. Welcome to our Mystery  Days.

Flying high on our mystery day

Before a holiday Tripadvisor and Google are your best friends as you uncover the best things to do at your destination.

But too often we ignore our very own backyards and the adventures that await us.

Four years ago a group of us lived in London and partied, explored and experienced what that great old city, and the countries nearby had to offer. When we returned to little old Perth we tried to maintain that off to the pub every night and do everything attitude.

On one of those hazy nights Ms Lamb shared how her parents are part of a group where each person organises a surprise outing every few months. We loved it, borrow it and created Mystery Days.

Our only rule: it has to be under $150.

Our adventures - 1: Swan Valley horse and cart wine tour. 2: Adventure World. 3: Exploring the tunnels under Fremantle Prison. 4: Looking glam after make-up lessons. 5: Indulging at Tranby House's high tea. 6: Reef walking at AQWA..

We've uncovered nine mysteries. We've been on a horse and cart wine tour in the Swan Valley; been kids at the Perth Zoo and SciTech; were kidnapped to South Yunderup; were gangsters shooting guns then convicts in the tunnels under Fremantle Prison; explored Perth's bar scene on foot; been kids again at Adventure World; been ladies at Tranby House's high tea; learnt to apply our make-up properly; and been underwater explorers at AQWA's reef walking experience.

On Saturday, Ms BB organised our tenth mystery.

We knew the time to meet at Ms BB's, to wear casual/nice clothes for dinner/drinks and bring $70.00 plus bring extra for dinner/drinks.
We piled into the car and the guessing game began. As we exited off Roe Highway and headed to Jandakot Airport the excitement grew sky high.

Rottnest Air Taxi organises scenic sunset flights over the coast and Perth. We were going to experience our city from the air.

Our aerial views - 1: Hillarys Boat Harbour 2: The CBD 3: Looking east.
The day could not have been nicer. It was a brilliant orange sunset and the rain held off so we could enjoy the view from the tiny six-seater.

Our pilot flew what I felt looked like a toy plane north over the coast. With Rottnest Island to our left and beaches to our right we tried to spot our homes and were amazed at how many backyard pools there are in Perth.

When we headed back we flew over the city it felt like we could reach out and touch the tops of the buildings. I then realised how little our city actually is. A stomach churning spiral later the half hour flight was over in a blink and we were back on land.

As we settled into drinks and nibbles at the George Street Bistro we all wondered how we would top the sky high bar Ms BB set after this adventure.

For such a small cost, I highly (no pun intended) recommend this adventure if you want to impress those tourists, or a partner.

It's Ms Lou's turn next... I wonder what mystery we'll experience then.
